Pat Murphy

Food Pantry Co-Director

Hi everyone. I am a retired teacher from Wells High School, formerly Wilson High School. While at Wilson I coordinated a student’s Bible Study and worked closely with the Young Life ministry. It was a great opportunity to serve Jesus in the public schools. Now that I’m retired I have more time to play and serve. I love to read, exercise, hike, work with my wife in the garden, help people with mason bees, and just keep myself busy. I always thought retirement was an opportunity to be available to serve.

I was born and raised in Pendleton, Oregon. After graduation from high school in 1971, I chose to go to college at the University of Oregon. My first real job was working in the Juvenile Court in Clackamas County as a Juvenile Court Counselor. I was introduced to the concept of having a relationship to Jesus in 1976. My life has taken a radical turn since then. I was reintroduced to my wife, Laurie, in 1980. We were married the next year and have two sons. I left the court and became a teacher in Portland Public Schools in 1984.

We have attended Greater Portland Bible Church since 1986. Since then we have served in many different capacities. Probably my favorite service was as a greeter at the door. We have been small group leaders, coordinators of the Financial Peace University class, and coordinators of the Compassion Clinics at Wilson. I was even an elder for a while. I am now serving as a co-director for the Food Pantry. It is an honor and a privilege to be able to serve.
