Our family came to Portland from Billings, Montana in 1989 for a new job—first me in January, with my wife Susan and our three young children following that spring. Transition was hard, and we were grieving the move away from friends and our church family. Then! God led us to Greater Portland. That first Sunday together as a family was magic. We were warmly welcomed, our kids loved their Sunday School classes, and that spirit of welcome and hospitality has remained a hallmark of our church—over 36 years later.
Our family has grown over the years, and we are now the proud parents of five adult children and nine grandchildren.
Susan and I, together and individually, have served in a variety of ministries at GPBC, including Men’s and Women’s ministries, Awana, the Global Partners Ministry Team, and more recently Care Ministry. I previously served two terms as an Elder from 2003–2009 and was grateful to rejoin the Elder team again in the fall of 2025.
I grew up in Berkeley, California and attended San Diego State University, where Susan and I met through InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. We have been married for 48 years. I’ve known Jesus as my personal Savior since I was young and grew up in a Christian home, but it was when I left home for college that I became certain I wasn’t simply riding the coattails of my parents’ faith and began pursuing and following God on my own.
I spent my 47-year career in Financial Services, first as a bank trust officer and later as a Financial Advisor, retiring at the end of 2023. In my free time, I enjoy reading, following Bay Area sports teams, cooking, and spending time with our children and grandchildren.
