Help Create a Welcoming Space for Big Questions

Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith in a friendly, open, and informal environment. Each week includes a talk that looks at a different question around faith, life, God, meaning, and purpose, followed by conversation around tables.
Many people rarely have space to slow down and talk honestly about the big questions of life. Alpha helps create that space, and volunteers make it possible.
By serving with Alpha, you can help create a welcoming environment where guests feel comfortable asking questions, building relationships, and exploring faith with no pressure, no cost, and no expectation that they have everything figured out.
Volunteer with Alpha: Starting Fall 2026 at GPBC!
Alpha is coming to GPBC this fall, and we would love for you to be part of the team.
Alpha creates a relaxed, welcoming space where people can explore faith, ask honest questions, enjoy a meal, and connect with others. Volunteers help make that space possible through hospitality, prayer, conversation, food, setup, cleanup, childcare, tech, and more.
Alpha begins Thursday, September 24, 2026, and meets weekly from 6:30–8:30 PM through December 10, with a break for Thanksgiving.
Volunteer Roles
- Food Team: Helps prepare and serve meals or snacks for Alpha. This is a great role for people who enjoy cooking, hospitality, and creating a welcoming environment around the table. For a larger team, food volunteers may also help organize and delegate meal preparation.
- Tech Support: Helps make sure the audio, visual, and presentation needs are ready each week so Alpha can run smoothly.
- Venue Team: Helps create a meeting space that feels welcoming, comfortable, and inviting. This may include decorating, arranging the room, or thinking creatively about the overall feel of the space.
- Welcome Team: Greets guests and helps with registration. Since this team will often be the first people guests meet, this is a great role for friendly people who enjoy connecting with others.
- Setup and Teardown Team: Helps set up before Alpha begins and clean up afterward. This is a great role for people who are available to come early, stay after, or serve behind the scenes.
- Childcare Team: Helps care for children so parents can participate in Alpha. This team will work with our children’s ministry and must follow GPBC’s childcare approval process.
- Prayer Team: Prays before and during Alpha. This is one of the most important roles, as we want every part of Alpha covered in prayer.
- Table Hosts and Helpers: Table Hosts help facilitate small group conversations and create a safe space for guests to share honestly. They should be good listeners who ask good questions. Helpers support the group by praying silently, encouraging guests, and helping build connection throughout the weeks.
