To kick off our time together we will be plugging into someone who has been a source of insight and encouragement in the past. Over the years we have benefited from books that were written by Os Guinness. Years ago, his books, The Call and Signals of Transcendence, helped sharpen our thinking about God’s call and providential workings in our own individual lives. But his latest project takes on a broader societal-wide scope.
In cooperation with Focus on the Family and The Colson Center, Guinness co-hosts, narrates, and coordinates a new film that will premiere on September 5, 2025, entitled Truth Rising. It is a ninety-five-minute documentary that will be segmented for us into 4 weeks of 25-minute clips. Os was born in China in World War II, where his parents were medical missionaries. A witness to the climax of the Chinese revolution in 1949, he was expelled with many other foreigners in 1951 and returned to England where he was educated, graduating from Oxford University and the University of London.
As a Christian statesman, now in his eighties, he has watched and evaluated from a Christian worldview the flow of Western culture over those eight decades, particularly as it relates to its view of truth. In this film he brings to light, through riveting interviews with key leaders, both Christian and secular, that we find ourselves at what he calls, a civilizational moment, and what God might be calling us to in that moment. We may not agree with everything we hear, but there is no doubt that we will be better informed, and sharpened by his insights. His purpose is to spark courage and bring clarity, as we seek to live for God in this cultural moment. Join us Sundays 9:15am, Deschutes Room.
